Seven treatment pages

Each page explains one part of implant treatment: what it is, the stages, the factors that move the cost and the questions worth taking to a dentist. Where we have a page for a specific Johannesburg suburb, it is linked under the treatment.

If you are not sure which page applies, start with dental implants, which explains the whole process, or with the implant assessment, which is where every treatment plan begins.

Implant bridge for several teeth

When two or more teeth next to each other are missing, a dentist may discuss a bridge held by implants. Here is what that involves, in plain language.

Implant-supported dentures

A denture that clips onto implants is a different treatment from a fixed full-arch bridge. Here is how it works, and what to ask about it.

Bone grafting and sinus lift

Some implant plans include a step to add bone before or during placement. This page explains why, what the procedures involve, and how they change the plan.

Implant assessment

The assessment is where every implant decision is made. Here is what usually happens, what a written treatment plan should contain, and what to take with you.

How to use these pages

These pages are written to help you understand a treatment plan and ask clear questions. They are not a diagnosis and they cannot tell you which treatment suits you. Two people with the same missing tooth can be offered different plans for good clinical reasons: the amount of bone, the health of the gums, the bite and general health all count. A dentist who examines you weighs those factors.

Where a page describes a range of possibilities, such as how long healing takes or whether a bone graft is needed, it describes what is common, not what will happen in your case.

What this website does not do

We do not examine, diagnose, treat, recommend or book. We do not publish prices, ratings, reviews or before-and-after pictures, and we do not name or rank practitioners. Read about this guide for how the website works.

The next step is an assessment by a dentist

Only a dentist who examines you, with X-rays or a scan, can say whether an implant is suitable and what it would involve. Start with your own dentist. If you do not have one, read what an implant assessment covers and what to take with you.
