Five areas, eight suburb pages

We have grouped our local pages into five parts of Johannesburg. Each area page describes where practices offering implant treatment are concentrated, how people in that area tend to reach them, and which treatment pages are most relevant. Suburb pages go further, but only where we could find something specific and sourced to say.

Central Johannesburg

Houghton, Killarney, Norwood and Parktown sit in the older central suburbs, between the northern practice clusters and the inner city. Here is what to know about planning treatment in this part of Johannesburg.

No separate suburb pages yet.

Why location matters for implant treatment

Implant treatment is rarely one visit. An assessment, possibly a preparation stage, the placement, a healing period of months and the fitting of the final tooth add up to several appointments, followed by regular reviews. The distance and the route to a practice therefore matter more than they do for a single filling. Parking, public transport and appointment times that fit around work are all fair things to weigh.

None of our area pages names, ranks or recommends a practice. They describe the landscape so that you can make your own choice, starting with your own dentist.

Why some suburbs have no page

We only publish a suburb page when we can say something specific and true about that place, backed by more than one independent source. Several suburbs, including Illovo, Hyde Park, Randburg and Edenvale, do not yet meet that standard, so they have no page of their own. The treatment pages apply wherever you live.

The next step is an assessment by a dentist

Only a dentist who examines you, with X-rays or a scan, can say whether an implant is suitable and what it would involve. Start with your own dentist. If you do not have one, read what an implant assessment covers and what to take with you.
