Planning a full arch

A full-arch case is planned from the teeth backwards: how the new teeth should look, how they meet the opposite jaw, and then where the implants need to go to support them. Some Rosebank practices describe using 3D scans and planning software for this, and some make surgical guides. Ask what records will be taken, such as photographs, bite records and scans, and whether you will see a mock-up of the proposed teeth.

Bridge materials

Final full-arch bridges are made from different materials, for example acrylic teeth on a metal framework, or zirconia. They differ in weight, appearance, repairability and laboratory cost. The temporary bridge fitted after surgery is usually a different, lighter construction. Ask which material is proposed for the final bridge, why, and how repairs would be handled.

Living with a full-arch bridge

A fixed full-arch bridge needs cleaning around and under it every day, with brushes and water flossers or similar aids the practice will show you. Regular review visits allow the dentist to check the implants and gums, and from time to time the bridge may be removed by the dentist for cleaning or checks. Ask how often these visits are needed and what they cost, because maintenance is part of the treatment.

See the general full-arch page and the Rosebank area page.

Frequently asked questions

What is a full-arch bridge made of?

Several materials are used, such as acrylic on a metal framework or zirconia. The dentist will propose one and explain why.

Does a full-arch bridge need maintenance?

Yes. Daily cleaning at home and regular professional reviews. Ask how often and at what cost.

Will I see the planned teeth before surgery?

Some practices show a mock-up or digital preview. Ask whether that is part of your plan.

The next step is an assessment by a dentist

Only a dentist who examines you, with X-rays or a scan, can say whether an implant is suitable and what it would involve. Start with your own dentist. If you do not have one, read what an implant assessment covers and what to take with you.
